As part of Equality and Diversity week students at Darlington College got to witness a fabulous Gatka Sikh Marital Arts display. This has always been taught as a spiritual exercise in Sikhism. Sikhism requires its followers to become absorbed in the name of God and this is taught through Gatka. Gatka is usually taught with a rhythmic accompaniment and the objective is to achieve fluid, natural and flowing movement, without hesitation doubt or anxiety. The entire martial art is based on the correct use of a vast array of melee (hand to hand) weapons).
