Elements, Bringing Industry, Art and Education together - Darlington

The Darlington Education Village is a pioneering project - the likes of which has never been seen before in the UK. Beaumont Hill Technology College, Springfield Primary School and Haughton Community School were brought together within the Education Village to create one "learning campus" to develop a unique approach to inclusive schools. The Education through the Arts in Science and Industry programme brought together the three schools before they moved to their new site, introducing them to each other's differing interests and abilities. One of the key aims was to help thos disparate schools forge a coherent identity. Gifted and talented pupils from Haughton Secondary School joined Year 10 pupils from Beaumont Hill Special School and Year 5 pupils from Springfield Primary School. Together they explored the chemical industries at Wilton on Teesside. The subsequent artworks created - an animation, a dance piece, with set design and the sculptures were featured as part of the sculptural installation at the grand opening event for the Education Village. This celebrated the completion of this exciting collaboration between schools and marked their journey forward together as one educational community. Artists involved included emma mcgurrell from Tin Productions, Rachel Willis, Andy Comley and Andrew Liddell. Project co-ordinated by Tees Valley Arts on behalf of NEPIC.
